GENERAL QUESTIONS

Why participate?

Seattle Works Day is a fun and easy way to give back! You will be one of 1,500 people digging in at parks and other greenspaces throughout the city. That's 5,000 hours of service in a single day!

Plus, because it's Seattle Works, we finish things off with a big old party complete with food, drinks and entertainment. What more could you ask for?

How about this? Your participation not only connects you with a great service opportunity and party, your contribution supports our year-round work to mobilize a generation!

Why urban greenspaces?
Why do so many people love the Puget Sound region? (Don't say the weather, wise guy.) Because of our incredible natural beauty. Seattle Works Day is a concentrated effort to keep our urban greenspaces beautiful and available for safe outdoor recreational activities.

Plus, rumor has it there's this thing called global warming happening. Healthy urban forests help combat climate change, not to mention the fact that they increase the purity of our water and air, and enable wildlife to thrive.

How much does it cost to participate?
Individual registrations for the event are $30.

Corporate sponsorship begins at $1,000 an includes participation plus exposure for your organization. Additional sponsorship levels are available, offering increased participation and recognition benefits. Interested in learning more about sponsorship? Contact our team.

What if I don’t have a team?
While we especially love participants who recruit their friends, colleges, etc. to join them on Seattle Works Day, you're more than welcome to sign up as an individual.

Seattle Works has three teams set-up for individual participants, known as "public" teams: Singles in Seattle, New to Seattle and Seattle Works Individuals. Sign up to join a public team.

What does Seattle Works do?
Seattle Works moves people from having good intentions to taking action in our community. We facilitate volunteer projects, provide community leadership training, produce a candidate guide for local elections, host conversations with community leaders, send volunteer teams to help in post-Katrina rebuilding and throw innovative and interesting voter-education events.

Our Weekly Email connects more than 3,000 subscribers with volunteer opportunities, civic events and interesting community new each week

Seattle Works is a 501c nonprofit organization, federal tax id number 91-1416844.

TEAM CAPTAIN QUESTIONS

What are the responsibilities of a team captain?
1.  Encourage people to join your team.

2.  Pick up t-shirts and check in materials for your team the week prior to the event at our office in lower Queen Anne.

3.  Ensure your team members know where they're going and are ready for the day.

4. Serve as a resource for the project site you're assigned to (aka your "project host"). They'll have any needed tools and know what the tasks are and how to accomplish them - they just need your support in welcoming and motivating your team. Team Captain are asked to arrive at project sites at 30 minutes early (11.30am) to prepare for your team's arrival.

5.  Drop off check-in materials at the Seattle Works Day AfterParty.

Who can be on my team?
Everyone is welcome to participate in Seattle Works Day!  The event brings together teams of friends, co-workers, college alumni groups, social networking organizations, faith groups, political campaign teams and more.

For liability reasons, finding projects for team members under the age of 18 can be a challenge. Please talk with our staff if you would like for your team to include children.

Is there a min or max number of team members?

No min. No max. If you do anticipate your team will have more than 25 participants it is good to know earlier in the planning process so we can be sure to have a project large enough for your group.

What is the timeline?

- NOW! - Get your team started. While you can start a team at any time, you'll have more success if you reach out to prospective team members sooner rather than later.

- April and May - Recruit, recruit, recruit! Check out our Team Captain Toolkit for ideas.

- Week of 5/26 - Send out a final recruitment push! Registration closes Mon 6/2.

- Sat 5/31-Wed 6/4 - Come by our office in lower Queen Anne to pick up t-shirts and check in materials. We'll be in touch with the schedule for our extended office hours.

- Week of 6/2 - Send out a reminder to your team with directions to your project site, how to prepare (eat breakfast, wear sunscreen, etc.) and pump them up. We'll have an easy template for you to use.

- SWD - Arrive at your project site 30 minutes early (11.30 am), check in with your project host, set up check-in materials and t-shirts, welcome your team, work hard, have fun, thank your team, drop off check in materials at the SWD AfterParty, kick-back and enjoy the rest of the day!

How do I get started?
1. Complete our ever-so-quick Team Captain Survey Monkey, which gives us the info we need to add your team to our registration database. We'll be in touch shortly once we've got you added.

2. Sign yourself up for the team you created and encourage people to join your team!

3. Get ideas and resources from our Team Captain Toolkit.
